Abstract
According to the Communication Office (2025, January 23), UNIFEI Materials Engineering students conducted a technical visit to Thyssenkrupp Springs & Stabilizers. In October, students from the Materials Engineering program at the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI), Itabira Campus, participated in a technical visit to Thyssenkrupp Springs & Stabilizers in Ibirité-MG. The activity was organized under the coordination of professors Silvano Leal dos Santos, Ricardo Luiz Perez Teixeira, and Luiz Leroy Thome Vaughan from the Institute of Integrated Engineering (IEI).
The visit was facilitated by the unit's Head Engineering Manager, Fabrício Lessa, and Plant Manager, Leonardo Fagundes. The program also received support from Alessandro Azevedo, Djordan Andriolli, and Bruno Teixeira Gil de Carvalho, who guided the students on a tour of the manufacturing lines for stabilizer bars and coil springs for light vehicles. As safety is a core value for the company, Rafaela Carvalho and Ethyene Santos were responsible for providing occupational safety instructions.
During the visit, the students observed the manufacturing processes of metallic components for automotive suspension, such as mechanical forming by forging and bending, as well as heat treatments widely used in the metallurgical and metalworking sectors. The experience was enriching, allowing students to understand how process variable control directly impacts the quality and performance of final products. Interaction with the company's professionals provided a valuable exchange of knowledge and practical experience in an industrial environment.
The involved professors highlighted the importance of the activity as a learning tool, aligning with the contents of the disciplines of Steelmaking and Metallic Materials Processing in the program's curriculum. According to them, the technical visit significantly contributed to the technical and personal development of the students, bridging the gap between theory and practice and enhancing their preparation for the job market.
